THERAPY GROUPS & PARENTING CLASSES

  • Teen Groups (13-18 yrs old)

TIP: Teen Intervention Program (13 – 18)

TIP uses the evidence based program, Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) to support youth struggling with substance use and abuse or who are involved with the juvenile justice system. This group meets once a week for 90 minutes for a minimum of 16 weeks.  It provides structured support for teens struggling to stop use of alcohol or other drugs or who want to end involvement with the legal system or law enforcement agencies.  This program teaches alternative ways to cope with life’s difficulties through motivational and cognitive-behavioral strategies.

The program includes a comprehensive assessment.  It is an open group.  Call for an intake appointment.

 

  • Relapse Prevention (13-18 yrs old)

This group is a minimum of 8 weeks of additional group support and treatment for youth struggling with substance abuse dependence or who need intensive support around relapse prevention.  It provides relapse prevention education, information on coping with urges and cravings, being around users, understanding support issues and taking charge of one’s own sobriety.

  • Teen Anger Support Group (14-18 yrs old)

This 10 week series focuses on helping adolescents explore reasons behind why they react so strongly, how to identify feelings and how to manage feelings of anger and aggression by replacing them with pro-social skills. Therapists work with youth to decrease their impulsiveness and over-reliance on aggressive means to get their needs met.  This group will meet the requirements for probation.

Youth must be pre-screened for participation in this group.  Please call New Morning for an intake appointment and dates as to the availability of the next group.

Parenting Classes

 

  • Parent Project (Parenting class for parents of difficult teens 12 –18 yrs old)    

Parent Project provides parents with the tools they need to effectively parent their “strong-willed” children.  This 12 week class offers parent support in learning how to prevent their children from using alcohol or other drugs, stop parent-child arguments, improves school performance, minimizes running away and violence and helps parents recognize and prevent gang involvement and enhances the parent-child relationship.  The class, taught by a New Morning therapist provides parents with specific step-by-step plans for intervening in their teen’s destructive behaviors.

  • Loving Solutions (Parenting class for parents of children 5 – 11 yrs old)

 Loving Solutions provides guidelines for parents to determine when they need a “rule”, what issues are negotiable, how to use time-out properly, how to get children to cooperate with household chores, how to get along with siblings and how to improve school success.  Parents will learn practical interventions that are proven to work.
Classes offered 3 times per year.  Call New Morning for class schedule.

 

  • The Incredible Years (Parenting class for parents of children 3-8 yrs old)

The Incredible Years is a 12 weeks series promoting positive parent interactions with children. This group provides support to parents through instructions of play, praise and rewards, effective limit setting and how to handle misbehavior with their children.
