24-Hour Children's Shelter

New Morning Youth and Family Services operates the only shelter of its kind in El Dorado County — we're open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All shelter services are free and voluntary.

Sometimes running away feels like the only way out, but living on the streets is dangerous. Staying with friends may be safer, but they can't provide professional and lasting help.

New Morning's Youth Shelter offers temporary housing, hot meals, clothing, and individual and family counseling services for kids ages 6 - 17. Our Youth Behavioral Specialists are available to help 24-hours a day.

Youth can admit themselves or be referred by family, friends, police, schools, or private agencies. We offer a safe environment free of tobacco, drugs and violence.

The Shelter always needs and appreciates donations of clothing, household items, and recreational items such as games and arts & crafts supplies.

If you are thinking of running away or know someone who is, call the Youth Shelter first.

If you are a parent and feel like you are losing all connection with your child, call the Youth Shelter.

Listen to the words of one parent:

"My daughter is a good student ... my friends tell me they wish their kids were more like mine. ... one night, my daughter felt like her life had become more than she could handle. A teen hotline referred her to New Morning's Youth Shelter, where she spent the next ten days. I'm very proud of my daughter. She didn't run away from her problems. Instead, she got all of us the professional help we needed. "
